Supervisory Nurse

Position Overview

The Gallup Indian Medical Center is seeking an experienced registered nurse to take on the role of Supervisory Nurse for the inpatient department. This leadership position plays a critical role in overseeing nursing operations, ensuring safe and effective patient care, and guiding a team of healthcare professionals in a fast-paced hospital environment.

This role is ideal for a nurse with strong leadership skills, extensive inpatient care experience, and the ability to maintain high standards of care while managing administrative duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  1. Staff Supervision & Leadership
    • Oversee daily work activities of the inpatient nursing staff.
    • Assign patient care responsibilities based on patient needs and staff skills.
    • Provide mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluations for nurses and support staff.
    • Foster teamwork and a positive work environment.
  2. Patient Care Oversight
    • Ensure all patient care meets professional standards and hospital protocols.
    • Coordinate treatment plans with physicians, specialists, and allied health professionals.
    • Monitor patient safety, infection control practices, and quality of care.
  3. Policy & Program Management
    • Develop, implement, and update nursing policies and procedures.
    • Lead quality improvement projects for patient outcomes.
    • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards and federal healthcare regulations.
  4. Administrative Duties
    • Prepare schedules and manage staffing levels.
    • Oversee budget allocations for equipment, supplies, and training needs.
    • Maintain accurate records, reports, and departmental documentation.
  5. Collaboration
    • Work closely with other hospital departments to ensure smooth patient flow.
    • Participate in committees and workgroups to address hospital-wide issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited professional nursing program (diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree).
  • License: Must possess a current, valid, and unrestricted nursing license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of specialized nursing experience at or equivalent to the next lower federal grade level. This experience should demonstrate your ability to provide nursing care, supervise staff, and manage unit operations.
  • Skills: Strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and effective communication abilities.

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background investigation and fingerprinting.
  • Medical Exam: May be required to complete a pre-employment physical exam.
  • Drug Testing: Pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Immunizations: Must meet immunization requirements for healthcare staff.

Work Environment

  • This role is based in an inpatient hospital unit where patient needs can change rapidly.
  • Work schedules may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet patient care needs.
  • You will balance clinical supervision with administrative duties in a busy medical setting.
