Engineering Technician

About the Role:

Join the Department of the Navy as an Engineering Technician and be part of a dedicated team delivering technical support for mission-critical systems and equipment. This role is based at Naval Air Station North Island and focuses on providing hands-on engineering assistance, testing, evaluations, and technical documentation for airborne weapons systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers and technical specialists to evaluate and test mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Perform a variety of data collection, analysis, and reporting tasks using specialized tools and techniques.
  • Provide technical recommendations during design reviews and system upgrades.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documentation including schematics, work instructions, and modification procedures.
  • Conduct field work and testing in operational environments, sometimes under tight deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

Specialized Experience (by Grade Level):

  • GS-07 Level: Minimum of 1 year of experience in performing routine engineering tasks, equipment evaluations, or support testing under supervision.
  • GS-09 Level: At least 1 year of specialized experience involving test planning, prototype evaluation, and use of technical instruments in a lab or field setting.

OR Education Substitution:

  • GS-07: 1 full year of graduate-level education related to engineering or technology or a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement.
  • GS-09: Master’s or equivalent degree in engineering technology or a related field.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service registration (for male applicants born after 12/31/1959).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Willingness to undergo background and drug testing prior to appointment.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with electronic, mechanical, or aerospace systems.
  • Proficient in using tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent design/test software.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Prior military or defense sector experience is a plus.
