About Roblox
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences, all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience they can imagine to life. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
The Role
The Engine Infra team is responsible for the game-server fleet that simulates live experiences, making it efficient, observable, and reliable on Roblox edge infrastructure and regional cloud capacity, from multiplexing and ARM bursting through telemetry, resource allocation, and edge latency. As a Senior Data Scientist on this team, you’ll use your full analytics tool belt to influence the product roadmap, build data products, and measure impact on our community of players and developers.
You Will
- Define Metrics: own Engine Infra metrics, telemetry logging, and validation for the RCC fleet and edge compute. Establish KPIs for game-server efficiency, reliability, and player experience.
- Transform and Visualize Data for Actionable Insights: access and process raw RCC and engine telemetry, build analytics pipelines, and deliver clear operating views of the fleet.
- Design Experiments and Apply Causal Inference: lead channel tests, hardware A/Bs, and causal analyses for multiplexing, ARM64 bursting, regional capacity, and edge latency.
- Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with Engine Infra, Game Engine, Networking, Matchmaking, Infrastructure, Product, and TPMs to debug ambiguous production issues and open new capacity and quality opportunities.
- Shape the Future of Roblox’s Foundation: influence how Roblox runs live experiences on owned edge and cloud hardware, toward a more efficient RCC fleet, better regional capacity, and lower edge latency.
You Have
- An advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on large-scale system analysis.
- 4+ years as a Data Scientist, with a proven track record of working on high-volume telemetry and product quality optimization.
- Expertise in processing massive, noisy datasets and building scalable pipelines for reporting.
- Experience using first-principles reasoning to debug complex, ambiguous system failures.
- Experience presenting deep technical results to Engineering leaders and using data storytelling to prioritize work and future investment.
- A background in game engines or systems performance, game development, or memory/network stack optimization is a plus.
Compensation
